What exactly are you new to; programming/data processing in general or 
just C/C++?

THE PUBLISHER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY YOU FOR YOUR TROUBLE.  They should not 
have chosen this work for their book.  The software is in beta stages, 
and the version in the book is outdated.
