Hi Marc,

The problem is caused by my arch enemy -- collect2. collect2 is installed
as ld.exe in the compiler directory (where cc1, f771 etc live), and is
buggy. I recommend that you simply delete (or rename collect2.ld) it and
that should take care of this problem. The "Internal compiler error" is
probably due to a bug in checking the status of the child programs, but
as far as I know, that was for mingw32 and not for cygwin32. Are you 
using cygwin32 or mingw32 distribution?
