Anyone:

Has anyone ever created a working version of kbhit() (the function
which returns true if a key has been pressed, false otherwise)? 
The cygnus one works, but it has a habit of printing 'peek 1' to 
the console every time it is called.

I saw the earlier question about keyboard IO, but no replies...
