The problem is simple - in win32 environment we may use 
WaitForMultipleObjects() api call to do "select" on sockets/handles, but it 
works only for connected sockets, and doesn't work for 
"connecting"/"listening" sockets. The whole file select.cc is avoiding of 
this problem :-)
