Ok, try this.

$(OBJECTDIR)/%.o: %.S
	@echo 'MAKE: $< -> $@'
	@$(MKDIR) $(OBJECTDIR) $(MKDIREND)
	@$(ASM) $(ASMFLAGS)$@ $<

ASM expands into gcc, ASMFLAGS into a load of stuff to do include
directories, and eventually -o .
