Hi Corinna,
There's a solution half way between gcc and Vicious C++ : the minimalist
GNUWIN32. This project is trying to make the MS C runtime DLL accessible
to gcc (cygwin32). Look at it at
http://www.fu.is.saga-u.ac.jp/~colin/mingw32.html
I've contributed some stuff to it. My experience is very good. One of
the
things I'm doing now is recompiling all the GNU stuff. I've made some
progress and the environment is not too user-unfriendly.
Anyway, give it a try.
