My primary function at Yale was to provide programming expertise for a RADAR automatic pattern recognition system. The previous programmer had gotten as far as separating the image into "blobs" of specific shape, location, and size. My part was to take these shapes and categorize them by comparing with known patterns. This work resulted in a number of papers and technical reports on pattern matching in unreliable data.
This software, like all I wrote at Yale, was in Pascal on a VAX Microstation running VMS. I was also the administrator for that system.
