As our network grew, we exceeded the maximum 10base2 segment length and our network failed. We had no budget to buy a repeater, so we designed and built one using an 80186 and parts from Radio Shack and other projects. The total price for the first prototype, including proto-fab, was under $200 and it could handle all the load our small network could generate. The software was in C and 8086 assembler and was built with Turbo-C!
The project was cancelled for political reasons.
