There are no relevant "confines". Like I said before, the look and feel of a dokuwiki page is completely determined by CSS files and javascript snippets. The content will adapt. As with all design tasks, the hard part is not the mechanics. It is to know what you want. It takes quite a bit of experience to come up with an original, yet pleasing design. Roland adapted the git-scm dokuwiki template for his mock-up. IMHO, this was a good choice. Start with a proven design and tweak it to suit your specific needs.
