Subject: switching modes

I want to do a fast mode switching between TextMode and GraphicsMode
on the vga card under higher resolutions (e.g. 800x600).

Is it possible at all to switch between modes and preserve the contents
of the graphics screen (without moving it pixel by pixel to some
backing storage)?
