Tam) To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Subject: new djgpp user needs help Status: O Hi, I've just installed djgpp on my 486, and when I tried to compile some programs I've written at work (on a SUN station with gcc1.40) I was unable to get pass the compilation process for several occasions. The most common error message I got was: Segmentation violation in pointer 0x80000000 at 40:10e3 Execpt 14 at eip=10e3 ^^^^ the eip value varies, but the message is the same. Another occasion, my 486 just reboot itself at the middle of the compilation. The djgpp version I got was from grape.ecs.clarkson.edu. My 486 has 4 Meg RAM, 130 Meg HardDisk, and currently running DOS5.0 with EMM386 and SMARTDRV using 1Meg for disk cache (Both EMM386 and SMARTDRV are from the MS-WIN3.1 package). At one point, I suspected the SMARTDRV and the loadhi commands might be the problem, so I commented out those from my autoexec.bat file. When I did a make again (BTW, I am using the make utility from Borland c++ 2.0), the red light of my harddisk just keep flashing and it never got passing the first file. I had to reboot my machine eventually. I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thanks! -Patrick Tam tam AT mech DOT eng DOT mcmaster DOT ca Department of Mech. Eng. McMaster University, Ont.
