While I have not yet had any problems with any version of Gnu C in which the
HD hangs, I had a similar problem earlier in which the HD hung with the I/O
light on. This problem only occured during intensive I/O activity and would
not be flagged by typical diagnostic programs. I was able to fix the problem
by performing a low-level format after entering the bad-block data that came
with the HD. While this may not be the source of problems with many DJGCC
users, it might be worth considering if complete backups are not too difficult.
