I got a similar problem *running*, not compiling fixwrite from the
current web2c TeX distribution. Fixwrite is such a simple progam
(it changes the syntax of write statements from pascal routines to
C, reading from stdin and writing to stdout), that I cannot believe
it to be anything but a djgpp bug.  Fixwrite blows up converting
tangle.p to tangle.c.
