However, there are some things I do where handling file names comes up, and the forward slashes and in the case of NT the long file names cause a lot of grief. I've received a LOT of help here, for which I am very grateful. Nothing that I'm saying should be construed as ungrateful. Most often, however, the help consisted of leading me farther from DOS/Windows and closer to UNIX. For good or for bad, that is the fact. I'm often in the position of having to make things work in a variety of environments, including UNIX. While I know I can solve problems by importing things across platforms (e.g., use mv instead of move, gmake instead of nmake, etc.), I don't always think this is a good idea.
