The main problem that Windows NT doesn't allow to use long filenames in the DOS box so any DOS-based program such DJGPP's package couldn't see long names. See more in mail archives, there are big threads dedicated this problem which still unresolved now. Some people tried to write Long FileNames Server for NT but...
