How can you see the version of as when using the -v switch for gcc?
It is not printed!!!

That's normal, since as is part of the binutils package.

There is no as.exe version 2.7.1 for DJGPP official available.
Only version 2.7 and above which know about the .p2align directive.

Please check the version of your as.exe by running:

as --version
