Did you look into the FAQ?  Section 3.4 there has some recommendations
about DPMI and other memory settings in `dosemu.conf'; try them.  (If you 
find that the FAQ recommendations need to be augmented, please tell me.)

The latest version of the DJGPP FAQ list is available as v2/faq201b.zip 
from the same place you get DJGPP.
