If you are using lepton...
I guess that the "space" splitting is done in:

$ fgrep -A10 '(define bom2:parseconfig' lepton-eda/netlist/scheme/backend/gnet-bom2.scm

Try to change the " \n\t" to "\n" and see if that solves your problem.
