   Yes, exactly.

   But the suggestions in earlier responses of pulling it into Inkscape 
gave me another idea.  The original shape came from Inkscape; I should 
be able to make a copy of it, remove all of the interior artwork to 
leave just the outline, scale it up a few percent in X and Y, and then 
import it separately but put it on the outline layer.  I may give that a 
shot today.
