There was (is still I think) an action called something like "morphpoly" or
"morphpolygons". This turned the cleared polygon shapes into explicit
polygon outlines, so would fit with your description of being able to
remove the lines afterwards.

It probably has options to work on the selected polygon. I don't recall the
syntax fully, and I'm ill in bed - so can't immediately check.
