Yes please!
The constantly popping dialogue UI paradigm was generally abandoned about 
15 years ago for a reason. Even gimp, the king of floating pop-ups 
switched to a less window intensive UI.

What infrastructure does inkscape use for its docked dialogues?
Inkscape is a gtk application which runs fine in windows and apple since 
ages. And it is pretty popular too.
