Thanks, configure.ac will tell me what the dependencies are and the 
minimum version numbers they should have.
But what I would like to know is where the agreement "use a minimum 
Gnome version" is written. And also important are there more of these 
"agreements".

I have a basic understanding of the Autotools and the Gnu build system. 
Are there more tools used? And could I encourage you to elaborate on 
that a little? It would be very helpful. ;-)
