I am ok with 2-key sequences. But I find many of the current combos
awkward. Most of them start with the character that points to the menu
the respective action is located in. in many cases the second
character is the first letter of the action. This is probably intended
to be more easily remembered. However, it also leads to finger
stretching like "EO" or "AP".

Hotkey design could learn from the way people configure their
keyboard in competitive games like starcraft. The most common layout
"grid" does not care for the letters on the keys. It prioritizes easy
access with the left hand instead.

Hot keys compatible with similar pcb functions would be great. After
years of geda use, I still find myself typing "n" to edit a string in
gschem or "n" in pcb to lay down a track.

+1

BTW, GTK provides a way to change hotkeys on the fly. This works in
pcb but on exit the application forgets about the user changes.
