In this case, the user has been an SGI hacker, assembly programmer,
and all-around nerdy smart guy.  He just has to use Windows for his
job, but has all the usual GNU ports installed to give it a unixy
feel.  I wouldn't call it "dumbing down" but "making it available to a
new level of user".
