Seems to me we are having the wrong discussion.
I see this in job ads all the time.

"We need a programmer fluent in XYZ".

What I want to know before I apply is what is the problem they need to solve?
Maybe I have experience in that problem domain, maybe I don't.
The language is not really relevant to solve the problem that they
want to solve.
What they want to solve is shipping a product to make a profit.
The language is not going to ship a project, yes a bad language can
kill a project not my point here.

Is there a language that exists, regardless of how common it may be,
that would be the best to use to solve
problems in gEDA's domain?  If there is not a language to that problem
domain, maybe it needs created.

Before picking up the hammer lets figure out what we are trying to
build, rather than debating the size of the nails.
