As far as I can tell kicad is having the same issue with eeschema that geda has with PCB http://ci.kicad-pcb.org/job/kicad-doxygen/ws/Documentation/doxygen/html/md_Documentation_development_road-map.html look for "Coherent SCHEMATIC Object" Actually looking at that list geda kind of feels like it is in many ways ahead of them.
