As far the plugin compilation is not part of main build process it is 
not so big problem. Plugin which does not compile anymore can be marked 
as "unmaintained" (moved to separate directory). Some kind of tests can 
be part of release process. The user contributions are not lost and 
later some volunteer can fix unmaintained plugin and bring it back to life.
