I can’t see how that could ever happen. The current symbol library is frozen in its present state by the fact that the geda-gaf tools use symbols from it by reference. Replacing it would break most existing gEDA projects. The most workable thing might be to have a hierarchy of symbol libraries, with “Essentials”, “Advanced”, “Contributed”, and “Legacy” at the top. Sort out the currently distributed symbols between “Essentials”, “Advanced”, and “Legacy”, but keep them all.
