Agreed.  It seems other Free Software projects already realized that (and 
to be honest, neither of the gEDA websites compare too well with these):

I like the design of the git-scm.com website, so I created a Dokuwiki 
template based on it[1].  This is just a proof of concept; I populated a 
few wiki pages so you can get an idea of how it would look like.  If you 
wish to log in, you can do so with username and password "geda".
