I certainly hope I didn't sound like I was putting down the wiki
effort!  I do appreciate all the help we can get to expand
documentation and keep things up to date.  I just don't think a
generic wiki page makes for a good first impression when someone looks
for a project.  It's not just the content, it's the appearance.  A few
glossy images and a first-time-visitor-specific layout makes a big
difference.

(and the pcb project page, at least, is also in git so those who want
to contribute to it may)

I disabled the registration page completely.  There were - literally -
thousands of new signups each day.  All new wiki contributors
currently need an admin to create the account for them.  I'm not
trying to discourage contributors, it's just the only way to stop the
spammers.
