The general answer is: cvs is easy for me.

The slightly longer answer is: everyone wants their favorite source
control system, typically git, but I've not found any that work as
well as cvs for this particular purpose.  In cvs, for example, you can
check out just your part of gedasymbols.  With git, you have to check
out all 63 Mb of gedasymbols.

The only two cvs commands you really need to know are add and commit
anyway.
