There are symbol generators for that kind of tedious work.

BTW, is there a list of available symbol generators ?
Thoose I know about are:

 http://www.gedasymbols.org/user/dj_delorie/tools/djboxsym.html
 http://wiki.geda-project.org/geda:tragesym_readme
 http://turkos.aspodata.se/git/openhw/pdftosym/pintosym.pl (my projekt)

You can make a few symbols for different parts of the component.
Having the same footprint and refdes attribute makes them be treated
like the same thing.

Have a look at e.g. stm32f100lm.*.LQFP48.sym files in:

 http://turkos.aspodata.se/git/openhw/pdftosym/examples.pintosym/

I have made a test board (test.sch) in:

 http://turkos.aspodata.se/git/openhw/arm_mcu/

(and, ohh yes, it depends on a few symbols from cvs.gedasymbols.org,
maybe I should have included them into that directory).
