this just occurred to me, that you can always change to a different 
desktop if KDE doesn't suit you. Slackware comes with a few, KDE being 
one of them. I have also tried fluxbox and probably some the other 
built-in desktops and they all worked out okay with gschem and PCB. 
Maybe you would prefer one of the other light wieght desktops instead.
