Dunno, why geda-project is down, hopefully it'll be up again.

Anyway, you can just try Lepton (traditional but not conservative
fork of geda-gaf):
- it can be installed alongside geda-gaf
- it has no Python vs Guile issues or issues with modern Guile versions
- it is supported by many of modern distros
- it has new config system
- it has many other improvements
- otherwise (file format etc.) it is backwards compatible with
  geda-gaf (of which we all--Lepton devs--were maintainers or devs
  in the past)
