Hello,

I've been dabbling with geda since the turn of the century, and have
done my best to keep up with the things discussed on the mailing
list(s). However, not being a programmer, most of the discussion has
been over my head.

So, I've decided I need to learn programming. I know I can do it, I
passed my blinking LED lab in 1977, with a Z80 using machine language,
and I passed my PERL/CGI online course in 1999.

My question to this group is, what programming language would be most
beneficial for me to learn, to help with gEDA?

I asked a similar question on #ubuntu, and the answers favored Python,
but I know that won't be of much use here, so...

And I suppose I should learn a scripting language too? I would like to
learn a scripting language that complements a programming language, if
such a pair exists?

My current platform is a clean install of Xubuntu 11.04. with nothing
related to gEDA installed, though I have loaded the Qcad packages if
that matters.

I have plenty of hard disk space, so installing multiple versions of
whatever is not a problem. Though backing that stuff up is limited to
~10 gig.

I think I'm starting with a clean, fresh slate.

I'm comfortable compiling from source, but I'm not familiar with Git.

I think I should learn Git, so I can stay current with developments?

Basically, I'm adrift, looking for a course, all suggestions welcome.
