Hi,
I use outporb() quite often in my programs, e.g. for writting to LPT port and I never had this problems neither in pure DOS nor under Win98. You don't need to do anything more in pmode, io access should work out of the box. But I never tried to write to MPU401 ports. Is it possible that writting to the port will trigger some interrupt that is not handled properly?
