That's a rather seriously bad choice of macro name to use in your own 
code.  You're trampling on implementation namespace there (C99 7.1.3p1, 
C++03 17.4.3.1.2p1).

Now that doesn't necessarily have to be the cause of the problems you're 
running into, but maybe you should reconsider just in case.
