What version of GDB is that?  Are you using gdb.exe or gdbtui.exe?

FWIW, I'm using the DJGPP GDB on Windows XP and have no such
problems.  And AFAIR, building GDB for DJGPP does not require curses
at all, except perhaps for the TUI build.
