Right.  It prepends a 2k stub that switches into 32 bit mode.

Check the gcc archives; there's been a couple of newer attempts at
adding 8086 support to gcc.  The latest one is by a person named Rask.

Any gcc will be good enough.  You'll be producing a cross compiler
either way.
