Just this morning I said this wasn't required, although when
addressing multiple points in a single post, following each point with
each of your responses (intermixed) is the easiest to read (like I'm
doing here).

Top posting makes more sense when the quoted material is acting like
an appendix to or example for your mail, like the post we're talking
about.
