I was downloading some of the latest updates of various binary packages
for DJGPP, including gcc 3.4.3. When I read the "readme" file,

    ftp://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2gnu/gcc343.README

I noticed some points that might be out of date. In the section called
"Installing binaries of gcc-3.4.3" it says the following:

You also need at least binutils (bnu231b.zip or newer) ...

The latest version of binutils that I can see is

    ftp://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2gnu/bnu215b.zip

Either something is missing from the ftp site, or "231" is a typo for
"213".

Just below that, I found this line:

NOTE: For debugging GDB version 6.1 or above is recommended.
(gdb-6.1 is not released for DJGPP yet though)....

On the ftp site I see this version

    ftp://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2gnu/gdb611b.zip

That is the version I have on my system (and have just recently been
learning how to use in anticipation of finally installing Linux at the
end of this month), and this is the version it reports:

    C:\DJGPP> gdb -v
    GNU gdb 6.1.1
    [...]

It looks like the warning about gdb can be rm'd from the "readme" now.

Once again, I would like to thank all of the DJGPP workers for their
efforts. I have been meaning for several years to put myself in a
position to contribute to DJGPP (among other things), but that still has
not happened. I will be updating hardware, partitioning my hard drives,
and installing several OS's very soon -- and hopefully not long after
will be able to begin learning how to contribute. I've been a lurker on
djgpp-workers for some time, and have been following with great interest
the troubles (and fixes) regarding popen.c, etc. Sorry I'm not quite
ready to do more than nitpick about readme files (yet)!

PS: I can't seem to post to this list using email any more -- I tried
two different email accounts. I thought my "sbcglobal.net" address
might be mistakenly blocked as spam, but no luck with the other either.
I tried emailing DJ himself, but was blocked just the same! Did I miss
a policy change regarding using email to post here?
