The change in command.com is stable.  It is now working as it
should.  The environmental memory setting is back at its
default value, auto.  There is no reason for my alert.

My guess is that probing command.com to determine what help it
could provide about its own capabilities reset some internal
flag.

I have prepared a large 'umble pie which I shall have for
breakfast.
