so, that's a real weakness of C.
I might do such math-combinatorial
algos first in Basic and only when speed is a real issue convert it to C. (Is
there a program to convert automatically ?)
Or is there any program/debugger/Compiler around which lets me test the
array-ranges 
in C ?
