Whoever created the diffs did a bad job, because these diffs work against
the heuristics inside `patch' that deduces which file do you want to
patch. (The reason why is a long story, but it's all in the docs.) So you
will have to tell it explicitly where the file is and where to put the
patched version:
patch -p0 -b -o cross/gnu/binutils/README-C4X gnu/binutils/README-C4X < patches-file
This assumes that the patched file goes to the cross/gnu/binutils
directory. The above command should be issued *after* you chdir to the
directory that is the parent of gnu.
