With most ftp servers, you enter a login of 'anonymous', not 'ftp'.  Try that.
BTW, you may also want to try ftp.coast.net and ftp.simtel.net for the
latest updates.

You are correct - the two compilers are NOT compatible at all.  You cannot
use Borland header files in DJGPP programs or vice versa.  If your
distribution of DJGPP didn't come with the C++ files, you need to download
gpp272b.zip and lgp271b.zip from one of the above ftp sites.  Also please
read the readme.1st file that should have been on the CD-ROM.  It tells you
exactly what to download.  And be sure to get the FAQ list from the ftp site
as well, and read the first several chapters to learn the differences between
Borland and GNU C/DJGPP.
