There is an other way to do this. Surround the function prototypes with

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif

/* here all the prototypes */

#ifdef __cplusplus
}
#endif


With this the header file can be used in C and C++ and you don't need to put
it before each function.
