Subject: Which UNIX??

OK, like others before me I also know that this is off topic, but most
everyone here seems to be of like mind to me, so I though this would be the
best place to ask. Please reply directly to me and DO NOT clog the list.

Does anyone have an opinion on the relative worthiness of the various
inexpensive UNIX/UNIX-like ports to Intel 386, such as BSD 386, LINUX,
Coherent, etc? I am about fed up with DOS, however I still need access to
commercial DOS apps. Please address any or all of the following issues:

	 1) Ability to run DOS apps directly or through a DOS emulator.
	 2) Ability to coexist on disk with DOS, including transfering files
from one partition to another or mounting the DOS partition, and
	   cross or conditional booting.
	 3) Availability of TCP/IP and SLIPS. Network card support?
	 4) Availability of X server and MOTIF ports. Quality?
	 5) Availability of X and MOTIF development libs/tools.
	 6) Availability of NFS or RFS.
	 7) Disk drivers available, for: MFM/RRL, SCSI, SCSI-2, IDS, EIDS
	 8) Tape drivers available.
	 9) CD drivers available.
	10) Setting up DJGPP cross compile environment.
	11) Availability of "C" and other development tools.
	12) Anything else handy to know.
	13) How do I aqcuire this dream environment?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
If anyone is interested in a summary of this survey let me know and I will
forward a copy of same to each.
