Short answers:
-------------
	1) No.  You only apply the maint. releases born AFTER the upgrade.
	2) Stubedit gcc.exe, and your compilation times will be more like
20 seconds.

Long answers:
------------
Download the DJGPP FAQ list (available as faqNNN.zip, where NNN is the
latest revision number) from the same place you got DJGPP, and read it.
Chapter 2 has some specific recommendations how to set up memory-depleted
systems like yours; that will take care of your 2nd question.  Chapter 3
discusses the maintenance releases issue; that would answer your 1st
question.

If, by omission or commission, the FAQ doesn't make these issues clear
enough, ask more on this list.
