Regarding the screen update rate: I've installed nansi.sys on my
386, it works much better than the stock.  I've bound some keys
to scroll-up-by-one and scroll-down-by-one (homemade funcs) and
when autorepeating the key, nansi.sys keeps up with the key
repeate rate.

One other BIG advantage of nansi.sys is that you can easily
modify it to have a much shorter ANSI beep; a big help for emacs
lovers.  All you need is the nansi.sys source and masm.
