Subject: developing a cross-compiler
Status: O

The 1.94 binutils have the nice feature that they are ideal for cross
compilers, however they still have many bugs. The old binutils is
relatively bug-free, but is also mostly feature-free as well.

Cygnus Support is currently still working on ironing out the bugs in
the new binutils, which will use a library they call BFD (binary file
descriptor), which gas binutils and ld will all use. I don't
currently know what the status of that endeavor is - I've seen some
success in some cases, but not reliably. Contact Cygnus for more
information (see the GNU SERVICE file on prep.ai.mit.edu for info on
contacting contractors).
